About Stepping Stones Magazine

Can you believe Stepping Stones Magazine started over a decade ago? What started as a 30-page saddle-stapled zine with a circulation of about 12 in 1996 has grown into a website that entertains thousands each year. By reinventing itself, being fluid with changes in publishing and embracing new technology, Stepping Stones Magazine continued to grow where many small-press publications closed their doors. Even with an event that wiped our website off the map for several months, the dedicated staff of awesome volunteers rolled up their sleeves and brought Stepping Stones back from the edge of the “ceased publication” ledge.

So exactly what is the fanfare about? In short, Stepping Stones Magazine is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to presenting awesome writing and art created by people from all lifestyles. We do not charge reading fees, or ask for payment to publish your work. Our mission is simply to do our part in supporting the arts.

Stepping Stones Magazine is about being a canvas for artists to experiment, whether that discipline be in words, photos, audio, or video. We are, and will continue to be, a home where new writers can focus on improving while receiving encourage from the staff and from our readers. We will always have a space where established writers can pull up a chair and tell tales of wonders. As long as we are able, we will be here for you.

Come familiarize yourself with what we publish. If you feel inclined, look at our writer’s guidelines and submit something. We would love to have you become a part of our ever-growing community.
