Another Inch

This is what sunlight does to blonds in Alaska

She’d call herself a
sun worshiper.
Kind of an old fashioned term now.
Yet I was able to see her then
sun dappled
beautiful as pulled taffy
long thin legs
If I could reach across the long drawn time
as sunlight caught
basking as it can over an alleyway.
Dawn, dusk, noon,
the sunshine sparkling as it does over the ocean
the wing ends of gulls
the lolling and splashing of the seals
her sun marked legs, arms,
the sun in her eyes
saying, Peter….
Hearing that I’ll start
