In the world of power,
men stand by the buttons
of weapons of mass destruction,
eager to slay millions,
while we sit in comfort in our homes
newspapered, tv’d, dreamy,
careless of our sentinels, foes.
And our hungry children,
hollow from the cornucopia of science
know swollen barns of grain
rotting on a distant government preserve
will never be theirs, despite their need.
So trapped in tenements, shanties
they hate their mothers, siblings,
always poised to detonate.
